Happy New Year 2017. Korean pop rock band DAY6 apparently have some exciting things up coming for this year to make Sundays look forward to new music each month.

A new song will be released on the 6th of each month along with special performances by each member from February till June. Cool right?

They start January with two songs "I Wait" (title) and "Goodbye Winter."

I generally like both.

don't read the elitism from both sides and don't read the h8ers who are against the genres

I started with oldies Jpop then gradually moved to Jrock and Kpop along with inklings of Korean rock. It depends by the level of infectiousness you are aiming for. But lately the K has been calling out to me. I think it partly knows how to target an international audience (mostly on this side). But both J and K have their way of easing their way to music listeners. I think K is easier to reach out to the urban music fans whereas like with Jrock and Jpop the indie is slightly underground but has its own popularity scale and is probably too 'out there' for an average person...otoh Kpop is the same.

You just have to know what your chill is and respect what others listen to. None of this elitist bullshit on who cannot sing/compose/dance/play instruments etc etc. What you may hate i.e anything popular may somehow have helped somebody. You get help from the weirdest places (I know I did).

If I didn't go back to the K side after numerous divorces with the Hallyu, I wouldn't have gotten into the EXO!OT12 family and I wouldn't have gotten that epiphany China Line triggered two years ago. While treading on Korean music lightly after leaving Jrock fandom I went through a few artists but wasn't massively hardcore to the point of splashing my cash on them. X Japan made me do that back in the day and while they've gone through ups and downs their music still speaks to me. The current K music on my music collection is Bangtan Sonyeondan and EXO (yes they've been through shit and back and still getting shit on but I do keep my ears and eyes on them - or try to). I also miss B.A.P. BIGBANG we had a thing, Super Junior we had a little thing but I'm leaving them for various reasons. Thanks for the music from a few months although we're done.
Despite the shitstorms of 2014 (problematic faves saying stupid things, people leaving or being chucked out of their designated roles, nature being furious, fandoms showing their light and dark) and me bailing out...yes there was music I liked. Rebounds or not.

aka why I could possibly never genuinely befriend elitist/purist and rabid fans of any genre or fandom. I thought my British Born Chinese ethnicity had too many predicaments. What about personal interests and passions? T_T

this is why I avoid daily fandom contributions )
I got inspired by this fandom post on Asian Junkie and another post discussing International and Korean fans in Kpop fandom. Even the UnitedKpop post on race got my brain buzzing.

As someone who used to be a regular contributor in many kinds of fandoms ranging from Rurouni Kenshin, Heroes to Jrock music fangirling and a lot more in the days (yes I used to be a rabid fangirl who did those bad things like bashing characters and regretted it), I have recently developed an understanding as to why a large number of native Asians tend to be...selfish and not always wanting to share their fandom culture. Mainly because it's started to happen to me as I get older. I think this is a bad sign.

Heard about the band's BB cover yesterday but haven't had the chance to check it out properly. They covered Love Song and I rather like it. I think Love Song is one of those songs that can be covered well on guitar and drums. Too bad I'm such a crappy musician in every aspect.

I also like their cover of SNSD's Mr Taxi. NGL I did headbang to the chorus. Will definitely check these Dong Saeng out later on.

Here's Love Song.

Working my way through FT Island's discography. Enjoying it so far. I haven't started on their Japanese releases yet. They remind me a lot of Nemesis (Sebin bb I miss you but your kitty photos on Instagram make me smile). Mixing a lot of symphonic flavour with the guitar riffs. Missing You is the stand out song right now but it could change as I go further along. Still waiting for more headbang worthy tracks. CN Blue had a lot more rock focus though they could go acoustic rather well. I have to refresh my brain on those guys too.
On the subject of Asian female 'cuteness'...

Aegyo, Kawaii, 可爱 {kěài} etc

I'm going to hell for this )
I never thought that an orchestral cover could be possible :) You can hear the fans singing along too haha.

Hah and I didn't realise Nemesis covered Gee as well. Who would've thought Gee could be uh...headbang-able?

I was going to rant blog a little about more Chinese-related articles I had recently come across (already gone through the UCLA and CSUN library stories. If you go a few posts back you'll see them) but this came up instead.

Tag, you're it! (if you're reading this)

Here’s how you play: Once you’ve been tagged you have to write a blog with weird, random, facts, habits or goals about yourself, at the end choose 15 people to be tagged, list their names and why you tagged them. Don’t forget to leave them a comment saying (You’re It!) and to go read your blog. You cannot tag the person that tagged you, so since you can’t tag me back, let me know when you are done and where you posted it so that I can go read YOUR blog answers...

**I'll leave this open to anyone actually since anyone may have done this meme already or similar ones previously...

shall I be obscure? )

Might edit this with more info on another particular quirk that's complicated.

Ordered EVE's History of EVE/Live In Seoul DVD last week. seem to ship specific items rather quickly, don't they? They shipped the DVD last Tuesday I think it was. Should come in on Saturday or Monday at the earliest. I hope this DVD is entertaining. It has live versions of all my favourite tracks.

So following on from an earlier entry which mentioned about old bands reforming, I hear one Brit girlband I was shamefully a rabid fan of in the past might be getting back together for real.

I guess this means I'll have to search for my copy of their first album and then go Sumomo!hyper to "Yo I tell you what I want what I really really want. So tell me what you want, what you really really want!!" XP

I think they'll just take it easy though since most of them are mothers now. It's been at least seven years or so since they separated and I guess some maturity has developed over time.

2007 is almost coming close to being labelled as the year old bands get back together, yes?

If money was not an issue and wishful thinking was a bonus I would fly out to Japan and attend an X concert (that is if the reformation goes ahead officially - along with the Luna Sea get together).
aka the list of rants I'll probably never be able to do in order to kill the critics

Nemesis vol 1 and G.Gorilla vol 2 came into the post today. I wasn't surprised the inside of the former was slightly damaged when I saw the soft envelope used to carry the CDs was torn up in some corners. It wasn't in terrible conditiion but the middle circular support where the CD is placed inside the case had small parts coming out.

I'm waiting for more online orders to come through. Three books on English grammar (one on letter writing) and two pre-orders as mentioned in an earlier entry. I hope this new Diru album is worth the listen.

Last night I was watching these various Robin Hood 2006 MVs before heading off to bed. God I'm bad. Now I'm more curious with the series, despite its supposed cheesiness.

I begin my temping assignment at this place tomorrow. Could be for a month or two. Hoping it's not too much of a killer to deal with.
not that many I don't think )
